How to actually achieve your new year goals in 2024!

Ever written a big list of new year goals, only to feel like giving up 2 weeks into the year? It may be because you’re setting goals the wrong way (or setting the wrong goals altogether!)

While goal setting sounds simple in theory, it’s more complex in practice. It’s one thing to write down a list of big goals and hope they’ll happen, but it’s another thing to actually make these come true and remain consistent. So, how can you ensure that your goals become a reality?

Don’t set goals – set processes!

Instead of focusing on the end result, focus more on what you actually need to do to get there! For example, if your goal is to lose 5kg, think about the habits and behaviours you need to adopt in order to achieve this.

Example:

Goal:

  • Lose 5kg

Processes:

  • Train 4x per week
  • Hit my step target daily
  • Hit my macros
  • Hire a coach to keep me accountable
  • Eat more fruit and veg
  • Improve my sleep

Focusing more on smaller, more actionable goals can increase motivation by making things seem more achievable. This will also give you a tangible action plan, rather than just hoping for the best.

Of course it’s fine to have larger, longer term goals, but it’s important to break these down so you know exactly what needs to be done for you to achieve it. This way, the goal simply becomes a bi-product of your new habits and lifestyle! Focusing on building habits rather than the end goal itself will also make the result much easier to maintain, as you’ll have built the routines you need to sustain long-term!
