How to achieve your New Year goals in 2025

The start of a brand new year brings new opportunities for growth, transformation, and self-discovery. For many of us, the new year signifies a fresh start—a chance to reflect, reset, and set new goals that align with our values and make us feel excited for the year ahead.

However, only 8% of people actually achieve their new year goals. So where are they going wrong, and how do you avoid becoming one of the 92% that don’t? Keep reading gf!

Here are 5 tips to help you set and achieve your new year goals with confidence. Bring on your best year yet!

  1. Reflect on 2024
  • Reflection is a powerful tool, and can help us figure out both what we do and don’t want
  • Use these prompts to help you reflect, and use your answers to help guide you in setting new year goals!

What did I do well in 2024?

What habits do I want to continue in the new year?

What habits/behaviours do I not want to continue?

What were my biggest struggles in 2024? What lessons did these struggles teach me?

  1. Consider your values
  • A common mistake people make is setting goals or intentions that do not align with their values
  • For example, if your goal is to lose 5kg, but you value meals out with your family, then cutting out all takeaway foods might not be the best approach for you
  • Make sure your goals and processes align with your values so you can maintain balance, and don’t need to give up the things you love
  1. Break it down
  • Once you've identified your new year goals, break them down into smaller, actionable steps
  • Breaking down your goals into manageable chunks will make them less daunting and more achievable
  • Create a detailed action plan outlining the specific tasks and milestones you need to accomplish along the way
  • Whether it's committing to a weekly workout schedule, tracking your progress, or seeking support from a mentor or coach, breaking your goals down into actionable steps will keep you focused and motivated on your journey
  1. Stay consistent
  • Consistency is key when it comes to achieving your new year goals
  • Make a commitment to yourself to show up consistently and put in the work, even when motivation drops or obstacles arise
  • Remember that progress will not be linear, and there will be challenges/setbacks along the way
  • Focus on being consistent rather than perfect, and set realistic expectations so you don’t feel discouraged when you slip up
  1. Be specific
  • The more specific you are with your goals, the higher your chances of achieving them
  • For example, don’t just say ‘I want to workout more’
  • Instead, change this to ‘I am going to commit to 3 workouts per week at 7am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. I am going to follow my TWS program so I know what I am doing in the gym, and will track my progress using the TWS app’
