6 ways to become a motivated girly
Okay, so we know that motivation is fleeting, and we need to rely on discipline and habits if we want results (especially during winter right now in Aus!). However, this doesn’t mean there aren’t certain things you can do to improve your motivation, and help you show up on those tough days!
Here are my top 6 tips to boost your motivation bestie:
Incentivise
- Think of a way you can reward yourself if you get your session/meal prep/steps done
- It could be something small like a takeaway coffee afterwards, a pedicure, or a warm bubble bath
- New activewear or training shoes can also help get you pumped for the gym too!
Try the ‘10 minute rule’
- If you don’t feel like going to the gym, just commit to just 10 minutes
- If you're still not feeling it, you can go home early
- Even if you leave after 10 minutes, you'll still be preserving your habit of going to the gym…so that’s a win anyway!
- But, chances are once you get started you'll want to finish your session (and sometimes these are the best sessions ever!)
BTW…this one only works if you are fully prepared to leave the gym after 10 mins, and not just tricking yourself into staying longer.
Treat your sessions like appointments
- Schedule your weekly sessions into your calendar at the beginning of each week, and block out time for them
- You wouldn't bail on a dentist appointment just because you cbf, so try thinking about your training sessions in the same way!
Set non-aesthetic goals
- Setting performance based goals (rather than goals based purely off changing your body) can completely change your relationship with training
- This shifts the focus from what your body looks like, to what it can do, which can make training much more exciting
- Training will start to feel like a celebration of your body’s strength, rather than a way to punish your body or a chore you have to ‘tick off’
Think of your future self
- A simple way to boost your motivation to get something done (whether it’s your gym session, prepping meals, steps or cardio etc) is to think of your future self
- You might not want to do it right now…but how will future-you feel knowing she has ticked off her habits for the day and is working towards her goals?
- Think of how you want to feel at the end of the day/week/month, and you’ll be more motivated to show up for your goals!
Find an accountability partner
- Friends, family members, and partners can make great accountability buddies!
- You can train together, or even just message each other to check in and make sure you're sticking with your daily habits
- Having a like-minded community to lean on for support can really help too (our TWS girlies know this first-hand!)
So remember, your main focus should always be on building habits and creating sustainable routines so that you don’t actually need to feel motivated to get things done. However, using little hacks like these can help you stay consistent when motivation is low! Now go get that session done gf
